Ashleigh M. Adams, PhD

Licensed Psychologist

Hi, I’m Dr. Ashleigh Adams, a licensed psychologist with 10 years of experience in cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), emotion regulation, and couples therapy including cognitive processing therapy, prolonged exposure, STAIR, mindfulness, anger management, and CBT for bipolar disorder.

I’ve had the privilege of helping adult individuals and couples navigate complex trauma, combat trauma, sexual trauma, moral injury, anger, aggression, anxiety, mood instability, relationship difficulties, infidelity, suicidality, self-harm, and substance use disorder. You can process emotional pain to achieve greater mental and emotional well-being.

My goal is to make myself obsolete – I will partner with you as you do the hard work, learn difficult skills, and ultimately reach a point of self-sufficiency and confidence so that I’m no longer necessary. I will ask difficult questions, listen, and empower you so that you can create the life that you want to live.

When trauma has taken away choices, I help clients reclaim their agency. If you or someone you know is seeking support and looking to overcome the cycle of trauma and avoidance, I’d love to discuss how we can work together. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family including my dog Casper, being in nature, gardening and cooking.

My Credentials

I graduated from Temple University with my PhD in clinical psychology in 2015, completed pre-doctoral training at Joseph J Peters Institute and the Philadelphia (CMC) VA Medical Center, focusing on trauma treatments and couples therapy. I also completed post-doctoral training in trauma, chronic pain, and substance use concerns at the Philadelphia VA. I worked at the Steven A Cohen Military Family Clinic at Penn for 8 years before we lost funding; I also served as the Assistant Director and Training Director for the last 5 years of its existence.
